Having spent many years abroad Chris and Sonya Wilcock brought their young family home to New Zealand and settled in the stunning surroundings of Hawkes Bay. Having developed their vineyard, in partnership with Chris’s parents Neil and Sarah Smith, time had finally come to give up city living and plunge head long into the world of wine.
Chris spent the 15 years working in Foreign Exchange trading rooms all over the world. After living in London, Singapore, Sydney and Zurich, and with a long term desire to move out of the office and into the fields, the family finally made the move from expats to settling in Hawkes Bay, quite a change!
Whilst the bulk of our wine education has been on the consumption side, the consumer is the most important person in the industry. However to complete avid consumption Chris has also completed a Certificate in Wine specialising in Viticulture, and is now undertaking a Post Graduate Diploma in Winemaking. Hands on experience however is irreplaceable and several Hawkes Bay vintages are more than complement the bookwork!
